You guys. We are three weeks shy of our 3rd cross-country move (and our 13th move, altogether – yeesh).
I have to say, I’m remarkably calm, considering. For one thing, there’s a lot less to do this time. Last year I was running around trying to finish selling everything we owned. That was a task unto itself, logistically, and it makes this go around seem like a piece of cake. Still, there’s a decent amount of loose ends to tie, from saying goodbyes, to donating goods that aren’t making the cut, to researching new American phone plans. Sigh.
And I’m slowly making peace with leaving this awesome corner of the continent. I’m super not happy about it, I’ve probably never been sadder about a departure (except maybe Germany). If we could stay here to raise support for our assignment in south Asia we absolutely would. But that’s not in the cards, so off we trek back to our home turf of mosquitoes and humidity – AKA – southeast Georgia.
But before we strike out back east we’re taking a little detour down the west coast (because what’s an extra 1,000 miles when you’re having fun?) to Monterey, California. I’m VERY excited about this. We lived in Monterey for a year around 2006 and we’re looking forward to catching up with a few families from the church we were members of once upon a time in Cali. I’m hoping to visit the Monterey Aquarium for old times sake. We went all the time when we lived there but Twelve Year Old is probably the only one that remembers it because the rest of the kids were either too young or less than born when we left. Aaaand, then we’re making a beeline east to Georgia.
Then we’ll sit tight in the south for a year or more raising support full time for our assignment in South Asia. (For more information about our plans and how you can help, email me at firstname.lastname@example.org)
Since our departure is imminent I have officially retired the Bohemian Bowman Grocery Wishlist (Can you believe it?)! And in it’s place I’ve created a temporary Road Trip Wishlist (<- click it). Included are lots of road trip snacks (pretzels, etc) and a few restaurant giftcards (Subway, etc) to help us save money on the road. I tried to add gasoline giftcards but Amazon doesn’t seem to supply them. Darn. However, if you would like to purchase them on your own you can still send them to our PO Box (Jessica Bowman / 1685 H St. #879 / Blaine, WA 98230). But make sure it’s mailed by August 26th to give it enough time to find us because we’re out of here on September 2nd.
The only other need on our agenda is a bit of car work that is necessary for us to pull off a successful cross-country adventure. We’re thinking it’ll be cheaper to get stateside before getting this work done – new tires, this and that. We have put our poor Durango through a lot – Cali to Maryland to Georgia to BC (and now back to Cali and Georgia). Not bad for a 13 year old SUV, eh?
And that’s the long and short of it. I’m busy getting caught up on work so that I don’t have to fuss with it too much on the road trip and tying up all those loose ends that I mentioned earlier. Moving – Am I right?
One day we’re finally going to be experts at this, right? Sigh.
If you you’d like to help us continue our adventures please consider ordering from the Road Trip Wishlist, finding out how you can Support Us In South Asia, or good old fashion donate through Paypal (email@example.com).
Thank you. You’re the best. Ever.
