Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?
This was a pretty fun week, birds of the air speaking.
In the mail (though not from the amazon grocery wishlist) came 20 beautiful and practical rolls of toilet paper with the message “Everybody poops”. Profound, you guys.
In the same box was also a brand spankin’ new bottle of Dr. Bronners. The sender had no idea that my current bottle (that literally came across the continent with me in my suitcase last June) was low. God is cool.
From a thing at church this week I came home with a plate full of leftover pizza. Not glamorous, mind you. But more than welcome. Have you guys noticed that I somehow end up with food directly from church, like, every week. Weird.
We ended up eating a fantastic dinner at someone’s house this weekend. Steak, mushrooms, garlic-cheesy-mashed-potatoes, bottomless wine. Need I say more?
(Didn’t I just mention last week that at least 1 out of 7 dinners a week end up being free? Yay other-people-cooking.)
They sent us home with some homemade apricot jam.
But the best part of the night was the surprise dessert (did I mention it was Jeremy’s birthday?).
A little backstory: In Jeremy’s family Dairy Queen Ice Cream Cakes are the standard of excellence. They hold a long standing and respected birthday tradition. So much so that Jeremy had been pining at his inevitable lack of cake this year and his dad had even gotten in a few jabs via facebook about making an honorary DQ visit in his honor. Flashforward to our dinner Saturday.
After we’re all fat and sassy on our steak and wine, in walks none other than a Dairy Queen Ice Cream Cake. With a bird on it. (Jeremy’s a serious birder, in case you didn’t know) And an Office reference, to boot. They had no idea that DQ cakes were a thang in our family (or that they were paying homage to The Office). The layers of awesome are admirable, yes?
Oh, and then they sent us home with some wine.
Basically, we won at Saturday.
And toilet paper.
And if you’re interested in ordering from our amazon grocery wishlist, we could use oatmeal, sugar, and coffee. Thanks, you guys.
What about you? If you have a story of God’s provision this week, please share it in the comments.
